I've read a lot on this board that suggests gross oversaturation of the job market with the resultant erosion of salary and control. I'm an M3 very interested in path, but some things I've read here have me worrying that I'd be throwing my career down the drain by becoming a pathologist. Is this an accurate interpretation of market forces? Is there an argument which opposes this viewpoint (more boomers= more biopsies= greater demand)?

Help me understand the situation in path. I'm really interested, but I don't want to make a huge mistake.

seriously, this is a dead horse. if you want to do path because you like it, do it and you will find a job. like everyone else in life, you may not immedeately get your dream job in a dream location, but you'll find a way to eat i'm sure.

If this is your opinion from reading this board then you have been reading very selectively.

If you want to do pathology because you like it, then do it. If you are going into it because it's a fallback or you heard you can get paid well, then don't. I have yet to meet anyone who is a good resident who has had any trouble landing a good job.

Anyone can argue that any career in the world is doomed to failure. Lawyers. Dentists. Fund managers. Engineers. Whatever. Just because some people say it doesn't mean it is so.

this is true. my reasons for considering it are intellectual interest and a preference for being a consultant rather than a direct care provider. i just want to make sure i'm not stepping into a minefield. but seriously, thanks for the response.
