ok so im an MS1 and i have a test in physiology tomorrow for UNIT 1 and was going through the questions in the guyton and hall review book and got like 60% correct in the first unit and that sucks man and that being said there like USMLE type questions should I be worried that this is an indication of like my step scores to come and test scores???

Are the questions like abnormally hard or are they fair game??

what can i do to better prepare myself??????

Hi...

The Textbook of Medical Physiology by Guyton/ Hall is a phenomenal text! I never got around to looking over 'baby Guyton', but in terms of reviewing for an upcoming exam... BRS Physiology by Costanzo is great. Check it out.

personally, i regretted ever buying guyton & hall. as usual, it depends on your style. i really really didn't like his writing style.

for 1st / 2nd year i found anatomy / physiology by martini to be great. mareib (spelling?) was also a decent basic intro to systems.

One problem with the Guyton question book is that many of the questions are geared toward information that is specifically within the Guyton text (e.g. the questions use the graphs used in the text, some of which are not easy to understand). This can make trying the questions pretty difficult even if you read the Guyton text.

I would use BRS Physiology. BRS is (apparently) more in line on what you need to know for Step 1. I also find BRS easier to get through quickly due to its format.

I just finished phys. The Guyton workbook is especially hard (harder than most of our exams), but if you read the explanations for the right/wrong answers in the back, you should be pretty well prepared. Don't be down on yourself about it....unless you are trying to be number one, then stress all you want.

I feel cheated that my school did not use Guyton for Physio and I have since learned how awesome a book that was... i'd probably be better if we would have used it!

As a side, I recently worked with one of his grand daugthers....
