is there a diff between OCD thats non med treated (counseling) or med-NEEDED OCD? like anafril or sum other pill? i know ssri's do it. so does effexor etc? anyone know the diff in treatment & HOW a diagnosis is made as to if its Axis 1 or axis 2?
The axis II disorder you're thinking of is Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD). It is fundamentally different than OCD. For example, it is not associated with rituals, and it is ego syntonic (patients don't realize that there is something wrong with them). OCPD is generally not treated with meds. Even though it isn't that rare, psychiatrists seem to pay little attention to OCPD, and I've rarely seen it diagnosed in patients.
