Is there a disadvantage to having a gap between the MCAT and applying?

As long as it is within the window that the school will accept, it doesn't matter.

Note that different schools have different windows.

Thanks for the response. From what I have read, the window is 2-3 years before matriculation depending on the school. Are there any schools with a window shorter than 2 years?

No, I haven't seen any schools with a gap less than 3 yrs.

I applied in my first cycle this year with a 2013 MCAT and it didn't seem to be a problem (and I certainly wasn't accepted for my grades)

I do not believe there are any with shorter than 2 year Windows. In fact, I thought 3 years was about the minimum but maybe I'm wrong. Make a school list and double check, as long as it is less than 3 years old you should be golden just about everywhere
