I know couple of people of got glasses recently and both went with with high end designer frames, Gucci and Versace. Saying since I am going to wear them all the time and they will become a major part of my look might as well spend little extra and get something I really like wearing.

So, is there a decent demand of these expensive frames? Does your optical carry good inventory of these designer frames? What percentage of your patients go with high end frames? What is the profit margin like compared to no name brands?

It seems like it is harder for commercial opticals to out price PP on these designer frames. Prices range around $250 for these virtually everywhere and don't think my local Walmart even carries high end frames.

I would say demand for high end frames depends on demographics a lot. My office is located in a lower middle class area, so whole there are occassionallypeople who request designer frames, most patients stick to lower end frames. I would say 5% would go for high end. We also have mostly elderly asian patients who do not really care about styles. Our office, and I would guess Walmart and other big retailers, no longer offer designer frames because the wholesale cost is so high >$100 and no ptenough demand ro be stocking them. The profit margin is relatively the same on our case, but private office prices differ a lot.
