Is there a thread dedicated to the MMI?

I was wondering if anyone knows where a thread for the MMI (Mutiple Mini Interview) format is on this forum? A lot of Canadaian schools are starting to change over to this format (Not sure about the states... anyone?) so I'm trying to find more information on the process itself and perhaps some particulars (questions, situations, etc).

Thanks guys/gals.

You can't really prepare for MMI interviews. I've been to 3 interviews that used this format and really, the best way to prepare is just be up-to-date with current medical news, such as new health policies, new research findings, a controversial ethical case in the media, etc. But really, anyone should be doing that regardless. Oh and the best advice I can give you is don't ramble because you may run out of time!

I LOVE this format and I think if you see this format as 10 chances to make a really good impression, then you will be good to go and will enjoy it very much. If you screw up once, who cares? The next interviewer has no clue about it. 🙂

Can you tell me what 3 schools used the MMI for future reference. Thank you!

Most schools in Canada use the MMI (perhaps all now). I'm not sure about US schools.

Hello,

I usually learn about medical news from the daily newspaper but will like to read more about this field. Can you suggest any good links where we can get update on current medical news?

Thanks in advance!

You absolutely can prepare for the MMI - the most important thing is to get a feeling for time. At the MMI's I participated in, I had 2 minutes to look at a scenario and then 8 minutes to talk. There were prompting questions the interviewer could use. Some of the prompting questions contained additional information or were counterfactual, but most of them asked you to consider another aspect of the issue and might not be asked if you had already covered that.

Both schools I interviewed at released some sample MMI questions to interview candidates, so it's not difficult to get a slate of questions to practice on. And after you do a few, you can quite easily create your own. Practice with a friend and give each other feedback.

haha it did remind me of speed dating on crack. i thought it was pretty low key since the one i went to had community members as well as doctors and such. i thought the key was to not ramble and keep it as relaxed as possible (although there was one old guy who i thought was very cold so conversation was very hard).

and the two minutes before you enter the door is plenty of time to collect your thoughts.
overall it was a pretty refreshing experience.
