is there a way to switch ERAS application from categorical to prelim IM?

Hello everyone...

I have walked into a very big dilemma.

I have applied to both radiology and Internal medicine programs. My 1st preference is radio, but since it is so competitive, I decided to apply to IM since I enjoy it almost as equally as radio and would be happy matching to either.

My issue is that I applied to both IM and Radio programs at a particular hospital. I received an interview invite from the radio program today. I accepted.

I obviously will not interview for both the IM and radio programs. My issue is that this is a place I would very much like to do a prelim year if possible. So...

1) is there a way to switch an IM application from categorical to prelim?
2) is this in poor taste?
3) should I just remove myself from consideration from the IM program and just not get into such a messy situation?

please advise...

I would think it is possible. I would email the program and explain you want to be considered for prelim rather than categorical.

Hey i also ran into same problem,only that i want to switch it from Prelim to Cat,i know there is the option in the ERAS,so was wondering what happens if i check the box for categorical now???? will i be considered for categorical by the program?? please suggest

I would think it is possible. I would email the program and explain you want to be considered for prelim rather than categorical.

I think you can just select preliminary on the program you already applied to and that will add your application to both programs. You can not cancel it by unselecting the categorical. But you can email the program and letting them know.
