I'm looking at the latest USMLE stats

NBME 2009 Annual Report, % Passing

2009 STEP 1
MD Degree 1st Takers 94%
DO Degree 1st Takers 81%

2009 STEP 2 CK
MD Degree 1st Takers 97%
DO Degree 1st Takers 90%

2009 STEP 2 CS
MD Degree 1st Takers 97%
DO Degree 1st Takers 92%

2009 STEP 3
MD Degree 1st Takers 94%
DO Degree 1st Takers 100%

Is this because the disparity among DO schools is greater than among MD schools? For example, I've heard the scores for TCOM are quite similar to an MD school... Regardless, in the end only the fittest survive.

Edited: Just found TCOM stats:
"TCOM class of 2010 achieved a 93.7% percent pass rate on the USMLE Step I"

Without questions about the proper way to prepare a raw chicken and which section of the bible to begin chanting from for proper osteopathic technique, most of us DO students are just lost on USMLE 😕

Interesting statistics. I think at KCOM this year about 40-50/162 class size took the USMLE Step 1. I don't know how many total people passed it out of those who took it. I took it, and I am glad I spent an extra month during rotations studying for the USMLE after the comlex, they definitely are not alike.

I thought not many DO students take Step 2 CS, and Step 3? Since most Internships will accept you take the Comlex step 3 and Comlex Step 2 PE for licensure (I don't think I can shell out another 1700 bucks for these two exams). I can see how that can make the numbers look skewed, if only the ultra gunners are taking the tests at the end..

BTW 81% for DO students taking Step 1 is pretty solid IMO, wasn't it like 70% couple years ago...
