is there any benefit for Canadians to go to a US school?

Or is it not a good idea (especially with the horrible canadian dollar right now)? I have quite competitive scores (3.98 gpa, 26aa 24 pat) but I heard US schools have more practical experience. Although I'm not sure if that's worse paying almost quadruple for the education. My choice of university right now (the only one I applied to lol) will put me at 150k in debt but it seems like going to the US will be significantly more. Any thoughts? Also I feel I'm almost guaranteed a spot in the US with my scores but canada is a lot more competitive so I might not get in.

Yo. How are you not competitive in Canada? Your GPA is almost impeccable and you have a 26 o.o.

You'd be surprised, Canada is a crap shoot.

That being said, your grades and DAT will likely get you an interview. But to be honest, if you get into Canada, take it. Schools here will cost us between 500-650k with the exchange rate and other fees. That, and do you have a cosigner that can help you pull out a loan of that size? Because if not, Canada is your only option anyways.

I am competitive! But canada is insane sometimes. I know someone who applied with a 4.0 and a few hundred hours of volunteer work/EC and didn't even get an interview. And all but one school discriminate heavily based on province so I really only have 1 dental school that gives me a good shot. Also my gpa and dat score are sort of the "upper bounds" of what they can be, some schools calculate gpa differently. So really my gpa fluctuates between 3.91-3.98 depending on which school I apply to. Same with my DAT (some schools don't look at some sections, etc) for example my main choice school I would only have a score of 24 which is competitive but not super guaranteed.

I do have a surgeon uncle willing to be a cosigner but I wouldn't want to take advantage of that fact. You make a good point on the cosigner thing -- I can't really justify tying someone down with my debt. I applied to a few canadian schools this year, if I don't get in i'll reevaluate my options I guess.
