Hi, I have a 2.68 cumulative GPA and I have 2 years of experience working at CVS as a pharmacy technician. I haven't yet taken my PCAT but is there any way I can get in if I score higher than average on my PCAT?

Get your GPA > 3.0

Get your GPA > 3.0

The problem with that is that I'm already going to be a year late, since I'm already done with 4 years of college so I don't have that much time left to improve my gpa. It seems to me that it's going to be extraordinarily difficult for me to get a gpa above 3.0.

If you don't get your GPA above 3.0, it's going to be "extraordinarily difficult" for you to get accepted to pharmacy school. It's definitely possible, but your GPA will not likely make the cut-offs at a large number of pharmacy schools.

I would do some research because some schools have a 2.5 or 2.75 GPA cutoff. Depending on how many units you have, it might be very hard to get your GPA above 3.0. It may require a year of classes with straight A's to get it above a 3.0.

Try to score in the 90 percentile for the PCAT. I would apply broadly and to the new schools opening up.

If you really want to be a pharmacist, then you'll take the time you need to take, and do whatever it takes, to get your GPA above a 3. If that means a year at a CC and straight A's then that is what you'll have to do. Sure, you could get in with a 2.68, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

I know how you feel, I'm getting my degree this summer and the thought of not getting in Fall 2012 and having to take 2 years off feels like the end of the world and time is running out. If you don't get in, take the 2 years to improve your gpa, improve your application, make money being a pharm tech or another profession. Just live life until then. I'm only 23. It's not the end of the world.

Why is your GPA so low?? Did you screw around? If not and those are the grades you received with reasonable effort, perhaps a rigorous professional program is not the best path for you.

You're going to need to bring your GPA up to at least a 3.0 (B average) as this is the cutoff for most reputable pharmacy schools. If this is the path you want to take, don't make excuses and just go for it and do whatever it takes! Best of luck. 🙂
