Is there any single case of accepting student straigt from high school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There are special (ussually 6-year) BA/MD programs that accept students directly out of HS.

If I remember correctly, there have been one or two cases of "prodigies" getting their medical degrees at ridiculously young ages (like 16). But again (if I remember correctly) these kids had completed the equivalent of undergraduate degrees (or at least pre-med requirements) at local colleges. Also, because they were so young, they couldn't really get licensed or practice medicine until they had aged a bit.

vinny delpino can tell you that his buddy doogie made it this way

Some schools have programs that will accept people from HS into med school, provided that they graduate from college and maintain a certain GPA. ECU does this for incoming freshman...I believe the spots are limited to 4 a year, but I could be wrong.

Some Caribbean schools will take you into their "premed" programs which are usually two semesters assuming you have some college or have AP'd many science classes. But that's not really the point...

It's always so funny to me how little the people who ask these questions realize about what "education" truly means. You will "learn" more in college outside of the classroom than you can possibly imagine. The best course you can take is called life--the longer you live it the more you come to understand.

i got into the brown 8-year program as a high school senior but i didn't go there because brown's medical school is not that great. i also interviewed at rochester and northwestern and didn't get them. i would strongly recommend that you apply to at least those three if you're interested. there are also other less well-known programs.

however, if you're confident of doing well in college (which is probably the case since you're considering doing a straight med program coming out of high school) i would recommend doing undergrad at a good institution and applying to med schools after that. to me, that just personally gives a lot more flexibility later on even though you have to take the MCAT's and have a decent GPA. and by the way if i had got into northwestern i would've gone there in a heartbeat, but since i didn't i'm happy where i am right now. if you're a gunner or whatever, you might not want to compromise your hopes of ending up in a top 10 medical school by doing one of these programs. but i think for most people it shouldn't matter and it's an excellent way to avoid the at-times-extreme pressure of being pre-med. but the way i saw it, i was going to have to take boards and do interviews for the rest of my life anyway, so i wanted to take the long path and make sure i was cut out for medicine and the lifestyle it demands. let me know if you have more questions.
