Ok, So i'm currently a 2nd year at cal and I'm seriously thinking about going to pharmacy school. My gpa right now is kinda on the lower end of the scale. So i'm thinking of instead of graduating in 4 years, that I take an extra semester or possibly a year, so I start pharm school after my 5th year (semester) and apply after my 4th year.
Normally, people apply after their 3rd year right? I'm taking anatomy and physiology labs that summer, and I wanna concentrate on those, and maybe lessen the load of my classes, so I can maybe volunteer more at pharmacy and find research position or job.
Also if I only just take an extra semester, I would have and 6,7 month gap before pharm school, in which that time I could take care of my body.

Could this be a viable option?
or should I just finish in 4 years, and apply after my 3rd year like normal people?
😕😕😕

People apply to pharmacy school at all kinds of different times. It doesn't matter where you are in your college career when you apply. Get your situation figured out before you apply though or else you're just wasting your time.

go to podiatry school.....its relatively easier to get in....and lots more money than u can ever imagine being pharmacist. I came across this thread in podiatry forums

You should go with the kind of schedule you can handle.

Hehe...normal people. I think everyone goes at their own pace, but I don't think it would hurt your application if you finish your degree in 4.5 years. I am in my 5th year (or what I like to call my super-senior😛 year) as a Chemistry major and I think as a result I have been able to be involved in more activities like research, volunteering, and club volleyball (a level btwn intramurals and Division I athletics).

If you feel that it would be beneficial to spread out those classes and focus on boosting your GPA, go for it🙂 I know it's helped me to become a more well-rounded applicant.

argh. I dunno if it's worth the extra maybe 40k to stay an extra year or 20k for extra semester. hmm. blah.
still doesn't guarantee anything.

Also once pharmcas comes out in like june/july? that's the best time to apply? They wouldn't see the summer or senior grades would they? I'm trying to boost my gpa in this process.

They WILL see the fall semester (the year your applying) even if your a senior. It is best to keep your gpa high rather than bombing it near the end of your graduation. Some school like USC is on a rolling basis so yes it is best to apply as early as possible (which include both pharmcas and supplemental forms). Some school would not process your application until both pharmcas and supplemental forms are complete. 😀
