So I guess on the heels of many a need advice post, I was just wondering if you guys could give me some comments/suggestions on what I kinda plan to do these next couple of years before I reapply. These last couple of months I've really been trying to figure out what I'm going to do (since those white envelopes started showing up in the mail) and I would really appreciate another person's point of view on all of this.

Before I start, this is where I'm at right now: I applied this cycle and am getting rejected from pretty much every school; I took the August MCAT, didn't send out some secondaries until my scores came back, and was just kinda behind on secondaries; my score went up to 30R from a 27P (9,9,9), but my verbal score from April dropped two points to a 7; and I'm sitting on a 3.28 GPA right now with a downward dip last year (3.14 when I applied and a C in physio that semester).

For awhile, I was just thinking about reapplying this coming cycle and getting everything early, but the GPA is really hurting my application right? I probably need to work on the GPA and apply earlier the next time around. I plan to take a SMP next year (not this coming year) and apply after I have a year's worth of grades in hand. My scores will be very close to expiring by the time I reapply.

I was just wondering if all this will help and whether or not I should be thinking about retaking the MCATs to get rid of that 7 in VR? Should I do a post-bac instead?

Any advice would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance! 🙂

More info would be helpful -- what is your BCPM? Any EC's? Based purely on what you have written, you are borderline for a lot of schools, and any improvement of GPA or MCAT (the 30 is fine but the unbalanced score might trouble schools unless english isn't your first language) will help. Either an SMP or post-bac can probably get you to where you need to be.

Have you considered applying to D.O., I'm sure if you're a well rounded individual you have a good chance of getting in. Also, stats for D.O. vary on state. I've heard that Pikeville is between 3.0-3.2 GPA but I know that NYCOM is around 3.4 GPA. Goodluck to you in the future and pursue your goals. DON'T GIVE UP!

Well my BCPM is around 3.36 right now, and I'm taking 3 more sciences classes this semester. As for EC, I've done a good amount I think: 3 years volunteer at hospital, 2 years as elementary school mentor, 2 years as high school mentor, 4 years with club on campus(w/ leadership position held), 2 years of peer advising, and 2 years of research (but no publications). ... Haha I guess I did everything but study 😀

English is my first language, and actually when I got my Aug MCAT scores back I was kinda suprised by that 7. I was taking a bunch of practice tests before then and I scored at least 9 and above on them. So I don't know what went wrong.

But thanks for all the suggestions so far. I will keep them in mind and take a look at some DO programs as well!
