Hi there you all, foreign anesthesia and pain doc here.

While reviewing videos for procedures I came across the Seattle science foundation channel, and found a lot of videos there with Douglas P Beall. I wonder is this a path to do pain in USA? I know that FM can do a pain fellowship. But one of the docs featured in those videos (Tyler Phillips I believe) is FM trained and did that fellowship (according to his linkend).

So my question is, is this a valid path in USA to do pain?

Theres a huge number of people practicing pain that have never done a pain fellowship at all, so this isnt anything crazy. If you google your local pain docs I guarantee you a good portion havent done an ACGME fellowship, NASS fellowship, nothing. There is no "path" to doing pain. Its the wild west

There are restrictions on being credentialed with insurance companies if you aren’t board certified.

There are fam med docs doing GI scopes too
Theres also NPs doing scopes after finishing up a 1 year GI "fellowship" where they perform and get signed off on like 5-10 supervised scopes. These fellowships are always at the super academic elite programs.

Doug offers an incredible training experience. If it made any sense for me to take time off from my practice I would go spend 6 months with him as well
