I have 2 days until I interview at Barnard. I don't feel like/have much money to go shopping was wondering if it was ok to wear or if I should go buy something more serious?

(The dress is pretty loose and just above knee length it just looks tighter and shorter since I was sliding off the bed)

Pig tails or bun?

I'm also interviewing in Bryn Mawr, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Dickinson, and Bowdoin so relatively liberal places

Absolutely DO NOT wear that dress. It really doesn't look professional. A women's suit is in order. You can get some cheap / good looking stuff at JC Penny: http://www.jcpenney.com/worthington...=&regId=&rrplacementtype=item_page.dpcontent1.

And don't fool yourself with liberal = ok to be poorly dressed. I went to a very liberal undergrad institution. You only get one chance for that first impression. Your clothes are handshake are what are going to be noticed first.

Regarding the hair. It's not that important. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with. I personally like hair down (I know that wasn't an option) unless it's going to get in the way (for example covers your eyes). Bun may be my preference on you. But it really doesn't make too much of a difference.

I was going to say the same thing. Do Not wear that, it is not professional. If you have a Kohl's in your area, you might be able to find cheap pieces for a suit there. That's what I did. good luck on interview!

Agreed with the above posters. Try to dress as conservatively as possible, i.e no cleavage, long-ish skirt/pants, solid colors, etc. Ignore what they say about dressing "business casual"; if you want to make a good first impression, dress as formally as you can.

Regarding the hair, I'd either put it in a low bun or put it down. Tbh, the pigtails are kinda childish and not professional.

I ended up using this outfit simply because I didn't have enough time to buy anything nicer and I was accepted into Barnard !! and I wore it again to Smith accepted to Smith on basically a full ride (gotta pay like 5k but !!!! cheaper than community college )

(I also applied and got waitlisted to Mount Holyoke and Dickinson but I didn't do an interview at either school) (I didn't apply to Bowdoin or Bryn Mawr in the end either)

Maybe i got lucky idk. i just thought it would be nice to follow up 😉

I wore fancier business casual (like your outfit) to all my college interviews and it was fine... I didn't buy a suit until med school interviews.
