Email of titled "MWU AZ College of Dental Medicine Waitlist for Interview Email"

"The admissions committee for the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine (CDM) has put your application for the Class of 2020 on hold pending possible future interview invitation.

We expect to receive over 3,000 applications for CDM this year. It is very difficult to predict the competitiveness of the applicant pool throughout the interview cycle. CDM plans to begin interviewing applicants in August and finish the interview cycle in early spring. Your application will continue to be presented to the CDM admissions committee and may at some point receive an interview invitation. Your application was deemed to posses enough merit to be held for future review and this should be viewed as a positive result. It is however impossible to predict if or when an interview invitation might be offered."

Better than a rejection, yet not an interview.

When did you submit your secondary?

It literally says that your application has enough merit for future review and should be viewed as positive.

Does that sound like a rejection?

No, it's not a rejection, it's a hold. Your application is interesting to them but not so much so that they want to schedule an interview with you yet. They are waiting to see who else applies between now and whenever. Some people were flat out rejected so it is not that. It also isn't always about stats so you might see some people with interview invites with lower stats but maybe there is something else they have that the admissions people said "hey, lets talk to this dude."

This is basically not a rejection. Keep your chin up 🙂.

How are your stats? If you don't mind me asking.

I got the same email and honestly first time I read it, I thought it's very positive thing as a matter of fact I was so happy!! Until I came here and saw some people got interviews, and that's when I looked at it as negative!! However, it is really a "hold".. I like to think about it as "at least they didn't reject us" so we will wait and see..

Breath. You'll get rejections (more than likely) this wasn't a complete one. Could be worse. Welcome to dental school applications.

I don't understand the purpose of these "waitlist for an interview" emails. Aren't we all waitlisted for interviews? LOL

If every school sent a waitlist for an interview, i would lose my patience.

Anyways, waitlist for an interview and waitlist for a rejection is pretty much the same. Haha, jokes aside. I think you are in a pretty good shape. Since you are on the hold list, they will review your application once more in probably October or November -- this is when most, if not all applications are in.

Good luck!

Got the same thing last cycle (had to call in order to find this out because they never emailed me) and I basically never heard back from them until April when I got my "official" rejection email. They say you still have a chance but from last year's thread no one who was wait listed for an interview got an actual interview (even if they did I'm pretty sure it was a slim number of people). Don't worry, it's not the end of the world...unless MWU-AZ was the only school you applied for [emoji6]

I got a similar email from UK and most people said it isn't looking to good. I don't plan on hearing back from them, that is for sure.
