OK, so from reading a million posts, this is what I think is the "correct" way of applying:

1) submit AADSAS early june
2) send transcripts right after submission
3) take DAT whenever cuz AADSAS doesn't really need it right away
4) send in LOR whenever cuz AADSAS doesn't really need it right away either
5) pay all the fees

is this right or am i mixed up??

You should send transcripts right away so that when you submit your application... they can start processing your GPA (they won't process your GPA without your transcripts). You don't want to submit your application and then wait for your transcripts to be mailed to AADSAS. You want your LORs in early too, that way AADSAS can send out your LORs with the rest of your application after they finish calculating your GPA. 🙂

ah, thanks for clarifying....but alas, i won't get my LORs until july...aaahhh in fact, I'm not even sure I'll get the LOR from my science teacher...she's still deciding whether to write one or not. I'm totally screwed if she says no cuz I got nobody else! Wish me luck guys!

Anyone that is not sure they want to write one is probably not someone you want to bank on. Just being honest...

you think begging her saying she's the only one left that i can ask will work (that is, if she ultimately decides not to)??? 😀

You should really find someone who knows you well and would be happy to write you a letter of recommendation. Don't get a LOR from someone who is reluctant to write you one because that letter can't be good.

oh i know people well alright but they're mostly TA's, not SCIENCE PROFESSORS which is what d-schools want. I go to a UC, which is quite large. For some reason, I get along great with all my TAs but never clicked with the teachers. One refused me because I got a B in his class, one already accepted my request, and this teacher forgot me...bummer i tell ya! like i said, I have no one else to turn to if this one refuses. If that should ever happen, you think I should go for the 5th year and force myself to foster relationship with the new set of teachers?

Keep in mind it will take anywhere from 3-6 weeks for your DAT scores to be sent to the schools you've designated. Make sure you take the DAT early enough so that the schools will have all of the components of your application so they can make a decision then and there to invite you for an interview or not. I would recommend submitting your AADSAS now, now, and now. Then take the DAT in the next month and be sure to follow up with all of the schools to make sure they have everything they need. Make sure your letters of rec are sent to AADSAS right away, because it all gets processed together. If you do it this way and there is a mix up, you'll have time to fix it, whereas if you wait a few months and there is a mix up, it will take longer to fix. Remember, most applicants will submit their apps in Aug-oct. If you wait till then, everything will go ten times slower and AADSAS will be more likely to make mistakes. Don't leave anything up to chance.

So I think it should look more like this:?

1) Send transcripts right away and get LORS in asap
2) Complete AADSAS application
3) Pay all the fees 😱 Not cheap!
4) Take the DAT when you are well prepared (I'd think to register way beforehand, because slots at Prometric fill up fast)
*************
5) do secondaries regardless of whether you here from them or not ( I think some schools you just go get the applications of their website in order to be considered)
6) send schoools even more money 🙁

OldBoy, the ADA website says: These results will be sent to dental schools within three weeks after the examination.
Did you happen to have a bad experience with them sending your DAT scores in late to the schools?

Where are you getting this 3-6 week figure? I have heard numerous times on SDN that it only takes 7-10 days?

[/QUOTE]

AADSAS and the ADA say a lot of things about when they will send scores and documents, but the bottom line is that they screw up sometimes. According to the schools I applied to, my DAT scores were recieved within about 3 weeks, but some of the schools (UCONN and Maryland) said they didn't recieve the scores until about 5 weeks after I took the DAT. This may have been an error on their part or on the ADA, but either way it is best to prepare for the worst, but hope for the best.

can u guys tell me if im ok

I thought it was 2 weeks, not up to 6! Jeez... So if i take my DAT at the begining of august and have the scores submited to the schools, and it takes 5 weeks... Will the schools just throw out my app without the dat scores? :scared:

quit freaking out! we're in the same boat. we have to keep our sanity if we want to make it through this process. just take it when you can. taking the DAT in august is not really "late", especailly if your AADSAS is in before the 4th of july. i'll probably take mine in the middle of july... won't have my LOR's ready to go until after that probably... but really... I think we'll be fine.

here's an advice. make a friend with an AADSAS customer service rep on the phone. i made a friend named darlene. she was a real nice person. she helped me out numerous times. in fact, if it wasnt for her, my 4th LOR would never have been sent out.

haha..i want to send in everything right now, but if my 2nd professor refuses the LOR, then I am screwed as well as having wasted money for the application/transcripts. therefore, i will have to wait and see if i get my LOR or not...haha...has anyone been in my predicament before? 😱

why do people have problems getting LORs? seriously, i did have two professor turn me down for recommendations, but they sat there for like 40mins and gave apologies and explanations...
it's crap if a professor just says "no, i dont think you're good enough" unless you got a C, D or F

thoes professors are probably too old to remember what it was like to be a student once.

Hey everyone,

What happens when you have already submitted your AADSAS and then you realized you misreported two W's. Will AADSAS correct this error when they calculate your GPA?

let's make a vow to be different when we're dentists and someone asks for a letter 🙂

They only have 4-5 reps working there, so making friends shouldn't be too difficult. 🙂

Call them ASAP and tell them what happened. Hopefully they'll be able to correct it before it is all tabulated into your GPA. IF not, you'll have to wait for the revisions to come out, which take a couple of months if I remember correctly. GOod luck
