About two years ago, I was wrongly penalized for violating on-campus housing regulations (alcohol-related). I'd go into details, but it is kind of a long story. The resident director did not give me a benefit of a doubt and gave me 7 hours of community service. Rather than appeal, I just sucked it up and did the 7 hours.

The incident, however, has since disappeared from my memory and I answered "no" to all questions regarding institutional action on my AMCAS and all secondary applications. But now that I remember the incident, I am really concerned that this incident may be regarded as institutional action.

So my question is, are housing violations regarded as institutional action? Thanks for the help.

I'd imagine it's not institutional action unless it's on file with your institution. So, is it?

Thanks for the quick responses. I have an unofficial version of my transcript and there is no indication of any such incident. However, I am worried that my version of the transcript is different (less complete) than the official transcripts that are received by medical schools. Maybe I am just being paranoid. I guess I will have to go to my school's registrar office.

Probably not on your transcript. Thats for really bad transgressions. It probably is filed with your judicial office and if schools inquire about it they will have the info.

Just because it's not on your transcript doesn't mean it doesn't exist somewhere. I have a housing IA and it's not on my transcript. Maybe I was overly cautious about reporting it, but I figured if there was anyway for schools to see it, I should tell them. Go to your school's judicial office and ask if there's anything on your record. Even if it is there, schools can't see it without your permission so deal with that then, and say that you forgot. This is so not something to stress about.

Thanks doxycycline and ksmi117, I will confer with the judicial office at my school.

I started undergrad in 2000 so I called the Dean's office and the Registrar's office to be sure there wasn't something I'd forgotten that would nail me later. Both offices said the info they had showed my files were clean. Never even heard of a judicial office but now I'm wondering if I should have called them instead or if that's overkill and all offices would have the same info?

Very much overkill. Most offices purge these kinds of records after 7ish years, so my school says.

I haven't heard of a judicial office until today either. But I just learned that at my school, the "Office of the Dean of Students" is the judicial office. It may be the same in your case too, Rach83.

lol I guess I was scared of being one of those posters who gets laughed at for saying "I totally forgot I murdered my roommate and didn't disclose this. Will schools find out?!?" 😛

Well I hope you certainly won't be posting that in a few months time. But just in case, the answer would be yes.😛

Thanks, I guess I'm good to go then. 🙂
