I know money isn't everything, but I was listening to some nurses speak about doctors--difference between DO and MD...they were sayin that DO's earn more money than MD's because of the way they handle insurance claims...i mean if this is true, its a big thumbs up for DO's!!! haha i personally dont care, but someone on this board might find this interesting...PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG PLEAZZZZE!!!

You can make assloads of money by the way you handle insurance claims....jsut make sure you dont get caught.

but does it matter if you're an MD or DO?

Probably makes no difference

DOs tend to go into primary care. I am pretty sure what you mentioned is totally *false.* 🙂

Pardon my ignorance, but how would the way you handle insurance claims make a significant difference in how much you earn?

I heard of some doctor who was billing for f/u appts as initial appts....this person got caught after a few years though.

Yeah, I've heard DOs make way more cheese than MDs. Osteopathic schools teach all kinds of cool money managing techniques. In fact, if you want to make money as a doc you should do DO. I think they're coming out with a show called DO 90210 chronicling the lives of milloinaire DOs. Sounds interesting.

DO's earn about 4 times as much as MD's, yes, simply because they know various insurance tricks. Insurance companies know this, and are behind the "anti-DO" stigma campaign, so they have to pay out much less to these people.

This can or cannot be true. Many DO's stop practicing manipulation b/c they say that they are not reimbursed by insurance companies. However, DO schools are now making it clear to grads that if you bill and code properly, you can get reimbursed and potentially earn more than your MD counterparts.
