B does not stand for BAD. i think people would faint if they saw my transcripts.

take the B, and don't worry about gen chem again until you take the mcat.

There will be more Bs as you proceed through undergrad. That's OK. Don't keep taking Ws!

Just make sure there are plenty of As to balance those Bs, obviously!

Just focus on doing as well as you can in the class. A few B's aren't bad. It's better to just get the class over with. Only WD if you are in really bad shape, like C or worse.

I am consused as to what to do. either way, I will have a bad record seems like.
I am getting a B on general chem II, long story, I took too many credits this semster, didn't expect to just crash on my first exam, got 77, second was OK, 88. I think it will be extremely hard to bounce back at this point to an A, am I right?

Do I need to withdraw and retake it or I just go on and walk away with a B? I know some school don't need all As to get in, but this is only my third science class ,if I walk away with a B, I can not get any more Bs in any other science class, or my chance will be so slim. I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

If this is your first withdrawal, then not as much of a problem. If you have previous withdrawals, then don't take the W unless you are in danger of failing. Withdrawing from a class that you believe you will receive a grade of "B" in is not very sound judgment if you have a pattern of withdrawals and over scheduling. You lose the money that you paid for the course and you set yourself up for having to achieve a grade of "A" in this required class.

If you schedule yourself for a heavy course load, you should be able to figure out that you need to drop something within the first week of class. After that, withdrawing should only be in dire cares of extended illness and the like. Withdrawal pattens especially over multiple semesters can be a deathblow to your application no matter what you overall performance.

In medical school, you just can't withdraw without leaving completely and patterns of withdrawal (after the first week of class) really do not help you overall.

Are you a non-trad? What's your GPA before taking this class.

Anyway, I really can't see a situation where you should take the W.

A "B" in Gen. Chem. is not that devastating. You can make up for it with, let's say, an "A" in Organic Chem next semester. The B is certainly better that a W.

Take the B. Having a bunch of W's on your transcipt is very bad, many adcoms view a string W's as a red flag.

A > B > C > W

in my opinion. just don't get too many B's or C's 🙂

By the way, you still have an outside shot at an A if you get 90+ on the 3rd test and the final exam...
