Isn't the chest X-Ray on Scrubs backward?

I was watching Scrubs today, yay for spring break  I noticed something odd in their intro, the chest X-ray is backward I think, the heart is not on the left (in the anatomy sense anyway). Have anyone noticed this? 😕

very observant

One of my interviewers actually brought this up.

From Wikipedia:
"The chest X-ray in the title sequence was hung backwards during the first season, then corrected briefly for season 2, but then returned to being backwards. Bill Lawrence states that having the X-ray backwards was intentional as it signified that the new interns were inexperienced."

Seriously, where would we be without Wikipedia and Google? I shudder even thinking about it.

I saw an episode of scrubs where JD had his appendix removed....
Except it was removed on the wrong side of the body.

They kept it in because as someone said, the shows for comedy above all else...

What's weird is that they have it anatomically correct in the opening of the each disk for Season 1, but when JD puts it on the light table during the intro to each episode it is indeed backwards.

Life without Wikipedia was just uncivilised! Like how it was before toilette paper. Sure, people lived back then, but do you really want to even imagine it? 😉

how would a posterior image look?

How can you tell? I thought the right lung was supposed to be larger than the left (our right)?

The cardiac silhouette should be shifted towards the patient's left side, not right (as it is usually displayed on the show). Unless the patient has dextrocardia, that is.

I think I might have dextromegatesticlia.

Is that something?

As far as I know, no matter how the image is shot the film will always be hung with the patient's left side to the physician's right and vice versa. This convention saves time and prevents careless mistakes.

"Dextromegatesticlia" :laugh:

Only if it hangs a lot lower than the other two.

Other two? Wait...so you only have three? er...? Hrmm...

You can tell from the diaphragm. The right dome is supposed to be slightly higher than the left because of the liver pushing up just beneath it.

I think Andy15430 is right too, I seen both PA and AP chest image (PA being posterior to anterior which is the order of which the X-ray penetrate your chest and AP is the reverse) and they always have the heart to the left (ie right if you look at the pic). Yay for my years in the ED, God I would hate to be a radiologist, although the pay is really really good

Yes, three, unless you count the two undescended.

Ahh...ok, you had me scared for a moment...

😱 what if my five nuts aren't normal? 😱

you know what's weird...when you saw through the sternum and open up the chest, the heart is more or less in the middle.
