Hi guys,
Here is the question I don't get.
Why not counting other molecules having same C7H14 structure, for example, 1-methylcyclohexane, or septene. Am I not understanding the definition of constitutional isomers? Constitutional isomer=structural isomers, same formula but different bond connectivity.

I noticed the same thing while i was studying.
I emailed the dude who wrote this book, but he didn't make an effort to write back.

anyways by lookig at the anwer explanation, it looks like he intended to ask
"how many constitutional isomers are there" without breaking the ring because his answers only inclued constitutional isomers that all have cyclopentane as parent chain.

like you said, the formula is c7h14(1 element of unsaturation), and there are other isomers coming from different sized rings (still 1 element of unsaturation) and other isomer coming from alkene (still 1 element of unaturation if only one double bond).

So, to be technically correct, he should have considered other consitutional isomers that has parent chain other than cyclopentane.
