It's 5 AM, I am driving my sleepy self to the library through the morning darkness to get a head start on studying. The roads are empty, the traffic lights are flashing yellow, and there is a sprinkle of rain giving the road a slippery surface. I turn the traction control off, rev up the motor, release the clutch, and spin the tires for two blocks with a massive grin on my face.

My rear-view mirror lights up with a red and blue flash, my heart drops, I pull over to the side of the road.

Officer: What is this? Need for speed or Grand theft auto?
Me: I am sorry sir, that was my bad.
Officer: That is ridiculous. Are you headed to work?
Me: No, school.
Officer: Where do you go to school?
Me: ______, I go to medical school there.
Officer: So you're studying to be a doctor?
Me: Yes sir.
Officer: Give me your driver's license and school ID.
Me: *Hands over driver's license and school ID*

The officer goes back to his cruiser. I wait in my car, my heart still pounding, hands shaking, mind racing. 5 Minutes later the officer comes back.

Officer: Listen, I will give you a warning since you're a medical student, but do not do that again.
Me:

Lessons learned: Don't be an idiot while driving, and getting $300k in debt has more perks than just an MD :horns:

Am I the only one who thinks this is really stupid? Sounds like you’re pre-clinical and roads were completely empty (until you see that one person crossing the street and can’t stop), wet, you were sleepy and you floored it. There’s no reason for that officer to give you anything less than a ticket. You got off with a warning due purely to a complete misunderstanding on the officer’s part. This isn’t a perk you earned or are entitled to and you shouldn’t even joke about it being such or expect it moving forward. I’m sure you’ve learnt a lesson short-term and get that you’re relieved and guess I’m glad you don’t have the ticket as an added stressor, but you absolutely deserved it.

Who TF goes to the library at 5 am. Even the gunners study at home during off times.

This feels like something a nursing student would post to her Facebook wall.

You're an idiot.

Oh please, the officer knew exactly what he was doing.

Dude, drifting on a dark, deserted road at 5 am in the rain is so, so stupid. Thats how you end up in the hospital trauma center, getting your scrubs cut off with trauma shears.

I like a little aggressive driving as much as the next guy, but thats like the textbook wrong way to do it.

Not sure how this is funny honestly. Seems pretty reckless and absurd.

Now I see why some Doctors have inflated egos. OP thinks it is cool to break the law and endanger the public but it is cool because he might be a Doctor one day.

Did you manage to miss the universal ridicule OP faced in this thread?

Now a days everytime i look back on the days when i used to drive recklessly (and do a lot of other insanely reckless stuff) all i can possibly think of is “man am i glad i survived my teenage years”, not to mention these kinds of things put other peoples’ lives at risk too

I was just excited to get my deposit for my apartment complex waived due to being a student. This seems irresponsible.

I got a speeding ticket for going 40 in a 35 zone in the middle of the night. I was rushing because my senior on nights texted me that my patient was dying and I wanted to be there. I had never had a ticket, profusely apologized to the officer and explained why I was in a hurry and was held up for half an hour. I made it into the hospital in time (barely) but got a ticket and my insurance went up.

Do I think I deserved it? Absolutely. Whatever my reasons, I was breaking the law. OP, you're highly reckless, but more so extremely arrogant for thinking breaking the law is ok just because you're in medicine.

OP sounds like one of those D-bag med students who wear their white coats everywhere just to hopefully be recognized and let people know they are going to be a doctor and has nothing interesting to tell other people besides "Oh... I'm in medical school. I'ma a big man. I'ma be a doctor one day!"

Or better yet... one of those students who has "Dr. 'insert last name here'" on their license plate.

Nothing says "I'm insecure" more than that.

It's not cool.

Seriously.

You look like more of an idiot than anything.

Just cause you're in medical school and gonna be a doc one day doesn't mean you are better than anybody OP. Don't let this get to your head.

You should have got a ticket.

Why do they let people like you into medical school anyway?

We definitely need a revamp for the interview process.

Funny enough I was going 22 MPH in our school's campus where it's only 15 MPH and I got pulled over by campus police when I wasn't even on campus. The cruiser followed me out and pulled me over into the dental school complex which is down the road. It's always easy to lose track of how fast you're going on that part of campus because it dips into a small descending hill so you speed up lol. Gave me a warning too.

#twinz

why is everyone here hammering on you so hard. ya you deserved a ticket. But I can bet everyone on this thread has 100% been speeding before. Maybe not the likes of what you did though, haha.
count ur blessings

There is a massive difference between doing a burn out for two blocks and speeding.
