Hey everyone,
I am getting kind of nervous thinking about the application cycle. So far I am complete at 19 schools. I have been put on hold at Penn State, and have gotten silence everywhere else.

I posted before about my chances, you can see my full stats/EC's here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/31-mcat-3-78-gpa-help-with-school-list.1095095/

The short version is:

27 MCAT (11 PS/6 VR/10 BS) in May 2014
31 MCAT (12 PS/8 VR/11 BS) in July 2014

3.78 cGPA
3.69 sGPA

OH resident

My AMCAS primary was complete August 28, and most secondaries completed by mid-September (with a few complete on Sept. 28). Wayne State sent me a secondary a bit later (they pre-screen for secondaries), on October 21 which I returned November 9.

I think my biggest problem was submitting later. Should I be thinking about a gap year? I am kind of depressed that it is so late into the cycle and I have not heard anything (but of course I submitted a bit late so maybe my time is coming?). I feel that my clinical experience and volunteering is sufficient, but I have been volunteering one a week this year (am a senior now) just in case. I was going to become a full-time TA and keep volunteering if I have to do a gap year. Should I retake the new MCAT? What are your thoughts?

Thank you!

Should you retake the new MCAT? NOOOOOO! Just apply early and also apply to 3-4 DO schools next cycle if things don't work out... If I were you, I would apply DO now since their cycle is longer...

Don't retake the MCAT
Might need to reapply but don't need a gap year (which you will have anyway)
Probably a good idea to consider DO, although you should get into MD
You could probably even try to apply to places like LECOM now

Is it too late to apply to OU? You are in a state with a great DO school that has very high IS matriculation rates.

You have MD stats, no point applying DO. Just reapply next year worse case scenario.

I think your problem was that you applied late. You might still get some interviews though.

The deadline for OUCOM is Feb 1, and for LECOM Apr. 1.

Assuming I don't get any interviews this cycle, I am planning to reapply to MD and DO schools as soon as the application opens. I suppose that it is still only about half way through the current cycle, so interviews are still a possibility.

I have all secondaries saved. Being that my main mistake was applying late due to my MCAT retake, should I just tweak them and my personal statement to be ready for next cycle in case I have to reapply? What I'm asking is, do you see anything major lacking on my primary app?

Thank you.

PLAN on re-applying, but don't give up hope because it isn't over. What you can improve on now (and should) is your ECs and activities. Not saying that they're weak -- just that there's always room for improvement here, and starting / ramping up NOW shows that it's not a knee-jerk reaction to an unsuccessful cycle. (Even if it is.) Don't necessarily start a bunch of new stuff - maybe one new item if you've got nothing especially interesting. But go for the kind of activity that will give you great stories to tell.
