A thread about pediatric cardiology would be quite interesting...🙂

Anyone else interested in peds gi?

Anyone else interested in peds gi?

nope, just you

It's the tubes in various orifices that I don't care for....

but the Nutrition part of GI and Nutrition, now that I can get into..

Here's a non-anonymous blog of a pedi GI person.

Do you have specific questions about it?...I know a bit about the field and I don't think any GI and Nutrition folks post on SDN, or at least I've never seen them.

oldbearprofessor,
Thank you for the link.
I'm currently a resident waiting for the peds gi match day...yay, another year, another match! :hardy:

Good luck! Since you are one of the few SDN posters to have participated in a fellowship match in pedi, it would be nice to explain the process and your experience with it a bit. Neo goes to a match for the next group.

Paging Scholes, paging Scholes....please come to the pedi forum and start a thread, paging Scholes

was the most recent one I could find.

Or you could start your own. What would you like to ask?

Hi there. I have posted several threads in the past about peds cards. This one below is one of the most informative. But if you do an advanced search under the pediatrcis section for "cardiology" and "cards" you will find an additional 2 dozen or so threads with information. Please post any other questions, and we can discuss.

yes, but don't tell OBP. 😉

OBP is down with folks who want to spend their days putting tubes in kids you-know-what's.

and Scholes - look a few threads down from this one and comment. The OP wants YOUR input, so I write a bunch of stuff for you to rebut.😀

TexasRose: Good, someone else interested in gi. What stage are you at in the whole process?

OBP: I would love to comment on the match process. This year is the first year for a match in peds gi so I guess it is still a little different. There isn't a universal application yet so you must contact each program for theirs. Also, some programs are not in the match, some have withdrawn from the match, and some have withdrawn partially (have 2 positions and match one while offering one outside the match). Otherwise it is the same as the residency match...must submit a ROL and confirm it, etc.,. I'm not holding my breath on matching just because it seems like a big game at times but we will see...June 13 is the big day! Hopefully neos will have an easier time with it all.

If anyone wants info on the whole process just leave a message here or pm me.

If this is true, it will be a short end to the match in pedi GI. The NRMP requires participation of 75% of programs and spots as I understand it. I'm not sure what the monitoring period is or if there is a "grace" period. More importantly, if the most well-known programs, especially the 3 or 4 most well-known (and we know which they are 🙂 ) are playing games with the match, then everyone will lose confidence in it.

I THINK it will go better in neo as there are more spots open which would dilute the effects of a few bad actors in the process.

I'll gossip around about it as SPR and see what I learn. Of course, I won't post that HERE!:meanie:

The big names have stuck with the match (Cincy, Boston, and so on) but I know of at least one program I interviewed with who was "committed to the match" and have 2 positions per year who suddenly only have one position registered with NRMP. And then there were 2 letters stating we are sorry but we have already selected someone for these positions. But for the most part it has been a good experience and hopefully it will work out in the end. Every other program I have talked to seem genuinely dedicated to the match. It's just frustrating to see things like that occur.
