Well i'm in pretty bad shape at the moment. After three semesters in college I have one F and four W's. I have a total of 30 credits. The only Science pre req i've completed is Bio in which I got A's in both semesters. My GPA now is 3.3 and i'm retaking the class I failed which was calculus. I'm also taking Chem next semester. Am I going to make it? Will I ever be forgiven?

You have plenty of time to redeem yourself.
I agree with this, but will add that you need to figure out why you did poorly and failed or withdrew. You may need to take some time off if you think that you would benefit from it (i.e. to resolve any issues, be they medical or personal, and to get yourself in gear). And although lighter course loads are not positive factors, it would be better to take a lighter load (e.g. 12-13 credits) than a full load if your GPA will be much higher. If you continue, you might want to try that if you are having difficulties adjusting your study skills to college for instance.

That's what she/he said?

An upward trend is a very common and positive thing highlighting an applicant's new found maturity or academic/time management skills.

You're definitely not dead in the water, and this is because you only have 30 credits thus far. However, for MD you better get cracking from here on out, i.e. all A's in pre-reqs and no more W's. I remember reading about a thread in which you explained you worked a lot, is this impacting your school performance? If so, I would advise taking out more loans to avoid having to work and just gun for 4.0's. I had to do this, I worked for freshman and sophomore year, but this year (junior year) I called it quits and it has made a big difference! When I was working I was so wound up, and stressed! Yes, I still did well, but I was literally losing my mind! Now, with no work I feel so much healthier and more stable! I have one W btw, and this was because my mom was hospitalized for over a month (mental illness), and I had to take on family duties in her absence. I will probably have to explain that one W, but I hope admins will understand as her disease has had a big impact on my life. You will DEFINITELY have to explain those four W's, so be ready for that. You can definitely do it OP! But you need to change stuff around with your study habits. My best advice would be put in MORE TIME, yes I know this isn't groundbreaking advice. But I have found that the whole pre-med route doesn't require exceptional innate ability, rather just a hard working/ grinding mentality. We aren't doing nuclear physics or chemical engineering, regardless of the smoke pre-meds like to blow about how hard it is--the truth is there are majors that blow out pre-med. So just put in more time, cause grades on the pre-med track basically correlate pretty strongly with time put in! Good-luck op!

There are a number of MD schools that value reinvention, and all DO schools do.

Go to your school's learning center and get advice on time mgt., learning strategies and styles and test taking skills.

If test taking anxiety is an issue, go to your school's counseling center. Do this is you have poor coping skills as well.
