Hi. I'm in my early 30's and this will be my second time applying for Dental school. Below are my 2 DAT scores: feedback would be much appreciated.

June 2007 July 2008

PAT 16 20
Q.R. 15 16
R.C. 16 18
Bio. 18 20
G.C. 16 18
O.C. 20 23
T.S. 18 20
A.A. 17 19

I have a cumGPA 3.65, scienceGPA 3.7. What are my chances of getting into the schools below. I probably a bit older than most students applying this year and a bit more desperate as i can't afford to spend another year out. I would appreciate everyone's feedback/comments to the fulllest. please tell me what you think. If you think i need to retake my DAT, then this what i may have to do to get in for 2009.

Applying to:

Arizona
Loma Linda
NYU
Temple
UNLV
Western Univ. Health sciences.

Again...some solid well thought through responses will mean gold to me! Best wishes to all who are on this journey.

peace,

you have a solid GPA and as well as average DAT scores. If I were you I would have applied to more schools and most importantly, make your application & personal statement more impressive!!! Good luck👍

Improvement is definitely impressive, but just to be on the safe side, call the schools you're applying to and see if they have a cutoff (to make sure your QR section is ok). You don't want to have a solid app but them throw it out b/c of one stupid section.

Otherwise congratulations! And yes, as the posters have mentioned, if you have the financial resources to do so, maybe apply to at least 3-5 more schools just to increase your chances of interviews/acceptance. Even if you don't get in to all of them but get more interviews, the experience of the early interviews just makes your later interviews easier!

Best of luck! Now go enjoy yourself!👍

Wow! Can you say 'drastic improvement.' I'm also retaking in a couple of weeks. May I ask what you felt the biggest difference between the two was? I am not asking about material, rather, about your poise, confidence, nerves, etc.

The first time i took the test, i honestly felt pretty lost going through bio... this had a negative impact on my confidence and way of thinking throughout the test. This added more mental stress, and blocked my mind from probably making the right connections. i was discouraged from the get go. This time, although i still felt like i did poorly on the bio, i didn't allow it to effect me the way it did the first time. i just kept believing that its gonna be alright. I also studied 10 weeks in comparison to 7 my first time. But honestly, i don't think the 7 weeks of studying was what brought my score down, it was my confidence and attitude. Another thing that helped this time around is that i took 3 practice tests each week for two weeks prior to the test day, which really helped build my test taking endurance. Finally, If you work hard and make each day the "test" day and do your part in faithfully studying, you can walk in with confidence the day of the test and just shine! You have to win the the battle in the mind before you get in on the test. best wishes! although my scores aren't the best, its not bad for a high school drop out. I had to start from ground zero and work through all my sciences with absolutely no background in science and a weak weak math foundation. Its been one heck of a journey. it took me 4 years to get here. i'm hoping and praying for '09.

best wishes!
