That's right, my second year of medical school was over today. Shaded in my last answer to a question about a patient with rusty sputum, handed in the exam booklet, and walked out into a sun-filled afternoon.

Wow, what a long, hard year it's been. I thought it was far more interesting and challenging than the first year, but it was so draining that I would not want to re-do it no matter what!

So here I am poised on the doors of third year, a bit scared and worried, and at the same time looking forward to learning "real" medicine. But wait--there's still that damn test in the way.

Just want to wish all my fellow 2nd year medical students good luck on the boards, and congratulations on making it thus far.

Congrats! I remember that day... it was... almost life-altering. Knowing that for the rest of my life, I wouldn't have to sit in a lecture hall and take tests every week. It is SOOOOO fun starting 3rd year. You'll definately feel lost and like you don't know anything, but before you know it, you'll start feeling confident, and you'll actually feel comfortable taking care of SICK people! Its such a huge boost to your psyche!

Enjoy the next couple of months! Take lots of pics!

Congrats Castaway 🙂 I'm in the same lovely boat!!! At least the next few weeks of studying are on our terms.

Thanks, Quinn. Your words are so reassuring. It's so good to hear truth AND comfort.

Hey, good job on finishing up your basic sciences...and lots of good vibes to you while studying for Step I.

I have until next January before I'm in your boat...i go to a school that finishes the basic sciences in 1 1/2 years and it's now mandatory to take and PASS the boards before heading off to clerkships...

How time flies...I'm almost done with my first year and it's very hard to believe.

Today was my last day, too. I'm looking forward to not spending all of my time in a classroom or in the library reading. I'm taking off a weekend before resuming my board studying...trying to pretend to be a normal person for a few days. 😉

copy cat 🙄

Today was our official last day of classes also. Yet, or last exam in digestive is on Monday. Its okay though, I'm not to worried about it. I move out of Lansing in a week to Grand Rapids then start cramming for USMLE. 🙁
At least the exams are over, and I get to review the material on my own time. I'm going to study at my undergrad library too, which will be kind of fun.

MS-3....(after Monday)....wow...hard to believe that... 👍

I remember that feeling this past December. I put down my pen, looked at my test, passed it in and let out a sigh of relief. I relaxed for about a week, then lightly studied for the boards, still enjoying the break from the classroom. We had some minor courses in January and then I hit the books hard, took Step 1 in Feb and intentionally forgot I was in med school for about two weeks.

Then came rotations. An entirely different experience all together. 😱

I finished yesterday, too, and am so ecstatic about it. I am taking this weekend off and then studying for my boards, which are on june 3. I'm a little nervous about starting 3rd year, because it's going to be so different and I won't know what to expect. But we all have to do it and it has to be better than this year has been. 🙂

Congratulations to all of the class of 2006 for finishing 2nd year!!!!

One more week for me! I can't wait to join you guys!

Ky - Congrats right back atcha!! I'm so happy to hear that someone else thought 2nd year was pretty darn tough! So many people I know said "oh, your grades will be so much better and you'll have so much more fun." Who WERE those people, lol!?!

Are you nervous about taking the boards so soon? I take them June 11th and am a bit worried about taking the weekend off (but have no intention of NOT taking it off, however!)

I'm not done till Friday, and it's going to be a hellish week. 🙁 Two class finals and two shelf exams, and I don't even know if I'll pass pharm. Aaarrgh. How I'm going to be able to study for the boards after this, I don't know. I don't even want to think of doing path after pharm, let alone Step One. Figures the last stretch of multiple exams would be the worst.

I cannot wait for this to be over. The only good thing is that it's something to console myself with when I'm on call...

No, I'm not really nervous. I just spent a couple weeks studying for cumulative path and pharm finals, so technically, it's like i'm studying 5.5 weeks for boards instead of 3.5. 🙂

And besides, I was exhausted from studying so much so I KNOW that when june 2 rolls around, I'll feel even worse!

Here Here!!! A toast (raises a pint of Guinness)...to the Republic and to the clinical years...may they not be as shi--y as the first two.

I'm right there with ya folks; finished last week myself. I don't know about you guys, but my new mantra is "how the f--- did I do it?!?!?!" Good luck to all and God speed.
