I have an interview with IU in the next 2 weeks. If anyone has recently been to the school for an interview your thoughts about the day would be appreciated. Any insight into how the interview is conducted would also be great.

I interviewed at Indiana last Feb for the entering class of 2006. I was interviewed by two doctors at the same time. They sort of present themselves as good cop/bad cop and you'll be able to tell which is which immediately. The good cop will ask you easier questions related to your interests and goals, etc. The bad cop may ask you some more difficult questions, possibly related to current events in optometry-politics, new procedures. I remember last year, the bad cop asked me about my views on the outlook of optometry and also about bad experiences I had in undergrad. My advice to you is not to panic even if you stumble on some responses as I did. Don't be intimidated by the good cop/bad cop idea-the bad cop is NOT that bad. If I remember correctly, it is a closed file interview-meaning that thay have not looked over your application, personal statement, or letters of rec prior to the interview.

After that interview you will meet with an academic advisor to go over your records-prereqs, GPA, application. She will also ask you a few questions. I found this part of the interview to be very relaxing because I was interviewed by this incredibly sweet older woman who was very easy to talk to.

Bring a list questions that are relevant to optometry and specific to Indiana's program and the campus in general. You will be able to ask questions during both parts of the interview so take advantage. Explain to them why you are a good fit for their program. Express your confidence and enthusiasm, not only in optometry, but in IU optometry.

You will then get a campus tour and eat lunch with some current students who will discuss their experiences with you.

You already have an advantage in that your interview is fairly early. You should find out your acceptance within a week or two. As a gauge, I got accepted with only four spots left and my GPA and OAT were right on average w/ the statistics from the entering class of 2005. I actually found out through a text message which was odd...

I interviewed at IU a couple of weeks ago. We were actually the first group to be interviewed for the class os 2007! There were 6 of us. 2 people went at the same time. One interview room was upstairs, one was downstairs. After that, there's an interview with the director or assocciate director of admissions (so that again 2 people go at a time). After my interview I had the tour of the school. But the 4 people who weren't interviewing had their tours first. After all that, we had a bit of a break and then lunch. We sat with a 3rd yr student, while our guests sat with the director of admissions and a faculty member, Dr. Harris. I forgot to mention before the interviews began, we had a quick 15 min welcome session. Talking about general info about the school, financial info...
The interview itself was easy going. I found that almost all the questions that asked me were to get to know me better, no ethical questions...why IU, extra-curriculars, my GPA, OAT scores...the second interview was really laid back, it was very easy to talk to Cindy! I asked a ton of questions, she had answers for everything and more. The questions she asked were fine, typical interview questions...same as in the interview forum. Hope that helps!
