I am strongly considering Indiana University School of Optometry, but am curious about its job placement. I was perusing its online job board and was severly underwhelmed. Very few full time jobs have been posted over the last year(for 70+ graduates). Does IU have some sort of internal placement system that only students have access to. On another note, how is the job market in the midwest? Specifically, Is the job market for optometrists in the southern half of Indiana as bad as the rest of the country? Thanks in advance. 🙂

From surveys I have seen they have like a 95% hire rate so they don't really use the job board.

The schools themselves are rarely the best source for finding a position.
Grads spread out all over the country, so often only local opportunities get listed.

The alumni-network may help in getting a position, but you need to narrow your search to a specific location first.

State associations/local societies typically are the best resource for locating jobs, but face to face contact is what it takes to get hired.
