Hello,

I'm finishing undergrad this spring and I'm looking to apply to clinical programs next fall. I'm interested in the program Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, but I'm confused about it a bit.

It has a stipend and full tuition remission, 100% of its students match to APA internships, and they have a 90% licensure rate, so it seems like a really good program according to what everyone here seems to say make for a good program. The faculty also seem to publish a lot and get relatively large and frequent grants, but the acceptance rate seems kinda high, 7% to 21% since 2008.

Am I missing something about this program? Is anyone familiar with it?

My guess is that it gets less applicants because it's not on a coast. It is always harder to find someone familiar with reputable programs because of the small cohorts so if this program looks like a good fit for you, then rely on the stats.

I agree- it's probably not got as many applicants because it's not on the coast. I don't think many people who are not already from the midwest are super eager to move there, although having moved from the coast to the midwest for internship, I can say was so very pleasantly surprised with how much I loved it!

I agree with the posters above about having fewer applicants due to being in the midwest. IUPUI's clinical psych program is also much newer compared to the separate Purdue and Indiana University clinical psychology programs, so I imagine the variability in acceptance rates is in part due to it becoming more known over time. Its location in Indianapolis also makes it attractive for practica opportunities compared to the other programs. Totally anecdotal, but I've worked with several IUPUI clinical psych grad students and they seem quite happy with their training! Feel free to PM if you have questions!

I have to ask...what's with that name of this program? Seriously, is that really necessary-two universities AND a city name. Who's in charge of PR and marketing there?

I think it has a pretty solid reputation. As an aside, I really just came here to say that everyone pronounces it "Ooey-pooey" instead of naming off all those damn vowels. Except don't say that to them, apparently they hate it. Seems endearing to me but what do I know. Cheers.
