I was enrolled in Brown's BA/MD program and compelted the pre-med years in 1998. Then I withdrew from the medical school to study acting at Juilliard. I graduated from Juilliard in 2003.

I am making plans to re-apply to medical school, but most career changer post-bac programs won't accept me because I have already compelted all the pre-med requirements (although that was so long ago).

I don't feel ready to take on upper level sciences courses to make my record more competative (I still have to get up to speed for the april MCAT).

Are there any programs I should look at which are for people in my unique situation?
Or should I jsut study for the MCAT on my own and pick up a couple upper level bios when I can manage them?

Thanks for your input!

One thing to consider is that some med schools like you to have your premed reqs done within the past 7 years (I believe there is some variance on this depending on the school). That said, a postbac program or significant course work on your own might be necessary. You should probably check with some of the postbac programs, some of them might make an exception for your situation. I would also check with a couple med school admissions offices (your state school) to see if you can get some feedback on what they would like to see in an applicant in your unique situation.

Drexel has a 1 year program called the medical science preparatory (MSP) program. It includes review classes of the basic premed sciences, graduate science classes, and MCAT prep classes. This would give you both upper level work and review work, so you won't feel underprepared. It sounds like you are a pretty motivated talented person (I'm assuming you did well in the premed years if you withdrew as a medical student in the Brown program), so you could probably also do well on your own. Have you checked to see if you can still get premed advising from Brown?

Harvard Extension school has open enrollment and it's a good deal at about $800 or so a class. You could retake your pre-med reqs if you like and/or take upper level courses. It's also quite well-regarded from what I hear and will certainly prepare you well for the MCAT. Check out the Harvard Extension 2004 and 2005 threads here on the post-bac forum for more info.

Yes, I am looking into Harvard Extension. And will read the posts regarding the school. Thanks!

Does anyone have any info about DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY in River Forest, IL. The accept about 5 candidates per year... and supposedly have a 100% placement rate.

kudos on your work at Julliard. I actually thought about pursuing an MFA at the American Conservatory Theatre but I didn't have the balls.

Regarding post-baccs, you should read the FAQ section at the beginning of this forum. Let me also point you to an important link:

another good place to look is the AAMC website.

A lot of the threads here concern special masters programs but I don't think that will be suitable for you. I think you're looking for a normal post-bacc program that constitutes remedial science courses. After 7 years, it will be a good idea to review those basic concepts. After that, you can probably take a few upper division courses as electives.

good luck on the MCAT.
