I don't know a ton about the "weight" or "prestige" that's associated with a lot of journals (except that JBJS is pretty high up there for Ortho), but I was wondering how it looks, in general, to be published as a first author in J Trauma. I get the impression it may not be the most highly respected journal, and it's technically not even an orthopedics journal is it? But either way, an ortho RD isn't going to look at that and say "wow, J Trauma? NEXT."

Being first author on a peer reviewed publication is a big deal no matter what journal it is.

That's a pretty important and powerful journal, not only in general surgery but also in ortho, and I've read plenty of articles in there FOBO (for Ortho, by Ortho).

Come on, man. Is this a serious question?

obviously you wanna submit to the most prestigious journal you can first. i had an article that we tried to get into JBJS, failed and ended up in journal of arthroplasty. in the end it's not a big deal if you can't get into a badass journal. i'd just steer clear of the ones that accept just about anything.
