J1 visa and switching programs for PGY2

I would like to know if its possible to switch programs for the second year. Currently an intern in F.P and wanting to switch to a different part of the country

Is is possible and how about switching specialties. Can any of this be done on a J1 visa???

The answer is yes to both questions.

As your visa is sponsored by the ECFMG, it is portable to any training program. The J Visa can be extended for a maximum of 7 years.

You can change specialties once, within the first two years of training. It's explained on the ECFMG Website.
