lots of scutwork, not the greatest of areas (it's in bronx)...be prepared to work real hard...but their residents seem to end up in very decent fellowships in very decent hospitals. just moved into a new building in the same area. they have their own fellowships too...will post more later...NOW: Mission USMLE Step 2 CK. cheers 😱

How does it compare to Montefiore, LIJ or other NY programs (SLR, Lenox Hill...)in terms of workload, teaching and felowships? I know Jacobi is a public hospital but I'm not sure whether this is a positive point.
I know it's a general question but I would really like some input. I am an IMG and have limited knowledge about the system here, I don't think interviews are enough too clarify things.
Thanks.

As a public hospital Jacobi will have a higher workload in terms of scut than the private hospitals you mention,it will give you much autonomy in patient management and experience in treating complicated and unusual medical problems. Many people love to work in public hospitals, others hate them. Jacobis academic reputation is very strong and it will put you in a good position for fellowships.Because of the workload and location in the Bronx there is a higher percentage of IMGs than at other NY academic programs.

Thank you for your replies!
I don't think I can go past the workload in Jacobi, I have a family and would like a more relaxed program (It's medicine so 'relaxed' is a relative term 🙂). I have just spoken to some of the residents in Jacobi and they seemed overworked compared to what I've seen in other places. It is probably great to have such an exposure but maybe 3 years would be too much...
Are the other places I've mentioned so much worse?
I think I'd like them better but since I want to get a fellowship afterwards I wouldn't like to make the wrong choice. I'm especially interested in LIJ (personal reasons).
Thanks
