At how much of a disadvantage am I if I start in Jan 09 vs Aug 08? Can I still get matched in 2012?

Can I take all 16 months of classes in a row or do I go around in 2013?

No doubt, you will match in 2013 if you start then.

SGU only has 2 semesters per year.

yup, 2013 it is. Plus side is that you will have more time to study for step 1, step 2, and more time in between rotations (live life baby, b/c you arent gonna have one in residency!).

you'll actually have an advantage on the Aug 09 class since you have more time to study for the steps, more time to do away rotations to help you get more interviews. Only disadvantage is that you will be getting matched in 2013..
