I was looking through Creighton's Information package and noticed that they are operated by the Jesuits. They also mentioned the following: "The Jesuits operate 28 colleges and univeristies in the U.S, 4 of which have medical schools."
Does anyone know which 4 (or 3 I guess) they are referring to?

So is SLU (Saint Louis University). NYMC says it follows the "Catholic tradition," but I'm not sure if it's specifically Jesuit or not.

My undergrad is Jesuit, Le Moyne in Syracuse. Canisius in Buffalo is Jesuit too. If I rem. correctly Georgetown is Jesuit also.

Georgetown is, Loyola, and Creighton...I didn't know about St Louis...but I don't know what the 4th one would be...

Georgetown is Jesuit....Loma Linda is seventh day adventist...its not a traditional Christian faith (that religion is neither Catholic or Protestant)
I heard its hard to get into LLU if you're not seventh day.

The four Jesuit universities with medical schools are: Georgetown, Loyola, Creighton, and St. Louis. NYMC is affiliated with the Catholic Diocese of New York, NOT the Jesuits.

Am I correct in that Georgetown follows Catholic tradition as well? I thought that Jesuit included Catholic tradition.

Jesuit describes the Society of Jesus, an order of the Catholic faith. All Jesuit institutions (e.g., Georgetown) are by definition, Catholic as well.

Awesome...thanks you guys for explaining all of this. I'm still not clear on whether Jesuits are considered Catholics though.
Does anyone know if there are med schools that are recognized as Protestants or just Christian in general?

Never mind about the question of Jesuits and Catholics; Phil Anthropist just answered that!
Thanks

Mahler, I don't know anything about the relationship that you are speaking of, could you please explain what you are talking about? I am also not sure what the Jewish connection is to that relationship so again, please help me out with this. Thanks!

I went to Le Moyne in Syracuse for undergrad. Those jesuits have the life if you ask me...happy hour, free cars, cool house...

If you are this rude I hope to God you don't actually become a doctor! 🙄

I second that!! Stupidity is the fear of asking a question.

Ignorance isn't the same thing as stupidity. You must be stupid if you don't know that! 😉

I'm not rude; I'm just blatantly honest

Well if you don't think you are rude then I guess you are rude and stupid! 😀

stupid question -- are you screwed as jesuit schools if you're pro-choice? i sort of thought about not applying to any catholic schools because of that issue but wound up applying and getting secondaries from georgetown and loyola. do abortion and religion come up in the interviews? i'm also an ex-catholic, so that probably won't go over well if it comes up. 🙂 my name is mary, though, so if neither comes up, maybe they'll just assume i'm catholic and give me some props. 😉

To all of you who are reading this, this is NOT a stupid question.

Georgetown and Loyola do not give preferance to Catholics, at least they won't admit it; I've also talked to people who have interviewed at Loyola and some have said abortion comes up, and others have said it hasn't. I guess if you do have an interview at a Jesuit, or any Catholic Medical school for that matter, you have the choice to speek your mind, or to give them the frothy banter they want about how you believe in "Protecting the sacredness of life"
