Jetpearl Number 18: Specialists make more. Don't hate da playa..hate the game

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wrote this quite a while ago.

It still applies.

I wrote pragmatic advice for the med student out there struggling with debt.

Advice your academic attendings won't divulge.

This thread is not for the Mother Theresa type.

Thanks Jet....
Meanwhile, I'm worrying about how I'm going to pay off all my loans/future house/kids' educations (even with sub-specialist pay) while driving my 10 year old Kia POS.

Hence the thread, Dude.

👍

Admittedly, a few years ago I was of "I'll work for damn near nothing!" crowd of future physicians. More recently, I've bought a house, seen my wife finish her JD (and pile up the loans in the process), seen my own student loans go up (footing the bill for all of undergrad, grad school and now med school) and I can't help but think "Holy crap! How am I going to pay for all of this?" I'm a little shocked at how quickly it's happened, but puttin' the Easy-Mac on the table (credit DrNinja for that one) has become a huge concern for me of late. It's tougher when my non-doctor friends are all out working, taking vacations, buying new cars, buying new toys in general and I'm still living like the student I am. I certainly am not begrudging in my choices, but when the more formal portion of my education is over, homeboy ain't going to work for free. Great thread JPP.
