Anyone know at what point during your residency you would start applying for hospitalist jobs?

It depends. Do you want a specific area of the country? How is hospitalist penetration? What about coroporate vs independent practice? Empolyeed or independent?

If you have specific requirements, you may want to start looking the beginning of your senior year. However, if you don't have a lot of requirements, starting to look the last half of your senior year will be plenty of time.

Do not forget that if you are moving out of state, that you will need to be licensed there which can take several weeks to months. In addition, you will have to be credentialed by your hospital which can also take months.

I accepted my job last May; it took until the end of August to get licensed and during the last two weeks I have finally been credentialed by the hospitals (and two of those are temporary privileges...pending final medical staff meetings). I'm still not on all the insurance plans I applied to.
