I have been a practicing anesthesiologist for about 6 years now. Seen many different workplaces sitting at about 6-7 different practices. I work mainly locums in the civilian world. I want to stress to new grads and those who have been working and have not found the right job their are so many jobs and different places to work that you will find the right location. I truly believe that if you are hard working a team player their are multiple places for you to work. Leaving a job? Group not a fit? Do not get down on yourself these are good times 1/3 of our workforce will be retiring in the next 5 years. Keep the faith. Be proud you chose our profession.

Agree. Wow. 6-7 different jobs in 6 years?

U must be single or no kids. Many people unfortunately are tied to certain areas though.

I second the OP.

My career:

1st job 1year....grossly underpaid in a bad location.
2nd job 1year....grossly underpaid academics
3rd job 3.5 years.....great job....meh location.
4th and current job 15+ years.....hopefully finish out my career here. Had several enticing offers and opportunities to leave but just don't want to. Also in many practices, after you've been someplace for a while you can carve out the practice that you want to suit your needs.

If you think there's a better fit out there, there probably is.

6 years? how do you figure bud? we have only been out for going on 5. I have had three jobs. first was not a horrible job -- good money, bad location. Great new grad job tho... I cut my teeth quickly. second job... academics... not for me. third job is good money and a great location but the work is hard... I just asked for partner track... keep your fingers crossed for me.
