Great post man!

This is why I came to England for medical school, and this is why I will not even apply to CaRMs.

What an embarrassment, patients having to wait 2-4 years for an operation. It angers me because the Canadians (and the rest of the world) loves to bash the U.S health care system. I agree, the Americans don't have it perfect, but at least if you have good insurance policy you WILL get surgery done within a few weeks.

This is ludicrious, I'll stay in UK/USA, thx!

That's exactly the problem...

I'm by no means defending the Canadian system. I've had to wait hours in the ER for something that only took 30 minutes to do by the attending. That being said, my dad who recently moved to the US had to pay $3000 UP FRONT for a routine colonoscopy (he's 50 now). Thankfully his employer has a pretty comprehensive insurance package but he was told he had to square up with the insurance company, not the doctors office.

I'm not taking a side here, I'm just saying that neither country has the system down perfectly and there is really no use in comparing the two or saying "I'd rather be in one or the other" because that's personal preference and not going to work for the majority of the population.
