I am a final year and went for a job interview. It is an employed position in Las Vegas, offered 210k pay, 3days cme with 1000 cme stipend, health benefits taken out of paycheck, no 401k, holidays not paid for. Generate 7hours of vacation every 2weeks. Scheduled 30mins for new patients and 15mins for med management. Usual load is about 25-30patients/day. What you guys think of this offer??

I am concerned about rushing through patients and also

It includes few benefits at all, and they expect you to churn through patients. I personally think that is a low-ball offer.

15 mins for med mgt followups(if they have a decent system in place) is not "churn through patients".....there are some employed positions out there that are going to want you to grind 6-7 mm followups an hour and not 4.

That's ****ty pay/benefits. Is it straight salary or going to RVU or is there some sort of production bonus?

If I saw 25-30 pts/day for med checks I'd make over 300/year wtih my RVU formula. Plus I get 3500 / year for conferences, matching contributions for retirement...

Is this locums or a permanent job?

I can't believe LV is so desirable that they can lowball like this--it's not NYC or something.

But 30 min new evals with no benefits makes this a horrid deal. It would be better to turn this job into a contractor job to get the tax benefits and take a higher pay instead of vacation/cme.

Friend just took a 40hr/week contractor job in Louisiana for 260k straight out of gen residency. No benefits. No call. Part inpatient. Part outpatient. 1 hr new eval with 15 min follow-ups. She had them rearrange the schedule even to work an extra hour M-Th and she gets off at noon Fri. Cost of living there is very low. Only a few weeks (I think 4) vacation/cme though.

Anything you get offered should be countered if you overall like the gig. Taking whatever someone initially offers is 95% of the time foolish from what I've seen.

It is permanent job. No productivity or bonus system. I tried to make a deal as a contractor but they are offering 115-120/hr. the sad thing is their benefits package is not competitive to me and they expect you to see mostly new patients every 30mins. Basically I will be seeing 16 new patients a day. 300k for this maybe a good start but they are not flexible so I turned down the offer

The more helpful questions might be: "how bad do you want to be in Vegas," and "what are some other jobs around Vegas sounding like?", and "can I imagine feeling good at the end of the day with that schedule." It might be a great job for you, or it might be terrible. Is Vegas closer to a shortage or an abundance of psychiatrists? I have no sense of which way that would go.

I agree that there are some tax benefits to being an independent contractor, as long as the compensation is higher to make up for the self-employment tax.

I want to live in Vegas but this job would not be willing to sacrifice quality/family time for. Yes vacation time sucks
