Job seeking advice in Texas
I just got licensed in October and have applied to several chains with no feedback. I have Emailed supervisors, some replied while some never bothered. Can someone advice me on what am doing wrong or not doing. Thank you.

Job market here has dried up in most of the major cities in the past year. Might want to try applying to some of the rural areas.

See if there's a "pharmacy intern coordinator" or "new grad something-or-other" position with any chains you're interested in. They can hire for a larger region than most supervisors.

Where are you located? Houston, Dallas???

A couple of the big PBM's are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. They are gearing up for what is known as welcome season aka hell. They hire a crap load of contract workers to help muddle through the increased volume. The bulk are let go around April or May...a few survive so it's worth a shot. Pay is about $115,000 with no benefits. Straight contract work.

Other than that you're going to have to go rural. East Texas occasionally has some chain openings. Here's one for a PIC of an independent.

West Texas around Midland and Odessa is still hurting. I saw a posting a month ago for a staff Rph with a 30k sign on bonus with Walgreens. Here's one for CVS. No mention of sign on bonus though...

You can always go south Texas and find something.

Thank you Zelma, I did that already for CVS, still trying to get a hold on the persons in charge for other chains.

Only places I'd consider living in Texas are Austin or somewhere in the panhandle since I like Colorado. Hell, how is the Denver market?

Just like every other big city...saturated to hell. In 2006 Denver got a new diploma mill school...Regis Univeristy or something. There is two or three more in the general area.

You're close to Colorado but a long ways away from the mountains in the Texas Pan Handle.

Ah yes, I keep forgetting about how far apart stuff is out west. Here I was thinking that driving from the Texas Panhandle to Denver would be like driving from NYC to the Poconos (2 hours or less).

When most people travel within Texas (Dallas --> Houston, Dallas --> Austin, Dallas --> San Antonio, and vice-versa) do most people drive or fly?

Ive heard bad things about the denver market too, as compared, slc, vegas, albequerque and Phoenix .. but I know some (2-3) classmates who got jobs there without having experience in the area (did have company connections) .. wouldn't say it is as bad as nyc or cali probably but I definitely put it on the bottom of my rank list for cities to look for jobs in . University hospital is expanding bigtime though from what I hear.

It depends. Dallas to Austin and San Antonio is not bad. I used to do some relief work out in the Midland/Odessa area and I would fly. The drive would have been 7 hours one way. Most people drive. It helps the speed limit is 75 or 80 for most of the state.

That speed limit is one thing I like about Texas. So I suppose the cops don't bother you unless you're over 100?
