We hear lots of things on this forum about people's fellowship quests. I would like to hear about what type of jobs people are getting straight out of residency without a fellowship. Anyone who graduated the last couple years (or who knows people who graduated the last couple years) able to share their experience of just getting a job? Thanks!

I think it all depends on what you want. All the residents in the class above me were able to find jobs without problems. In speaking with them, it basically came down to preferred geographic location, amount of responsibility (call coverage, weekends, vacations, etc) and of course how competitive the starting salary was.

One joined a medical practice that needed a physiatrist to cover subacute facilities, works 4-5 days a week, no weekends, no calls. One works for one of the hospitals that we rotate through in our residency, mostly inpatient. Another joined a practice that covers inpatient rehab. In other previous years, I know at least 2 that started that their own private practice immediately or a few years after residency.
