joining amsa???

I was just wondering how many are joining amsa-- when and why??? Are there any neat perks involved??

No idea! Someone said they got a free netter atlas for joining but i haven't found that anywhere. I want to be informed of current issues/events i just don't know if this is the way to do it.

I recommend you NOT join the AMSA. The free stuff really is not worth as much as it seems. Also, the AMSA is extreemly liberal/marxist. They do not represent the views of the membership. Unless you share their left wing liberal/marxist views, why support them???

Yes, there are a few good things they support such as resident work hour limits. But the vast majority of their support is for left wing liberal/marxist views.

Hmmm...well minimus, there is not much I can say back at that, except for I don't think I have to worry about my wife beating me up as much as your wife could trash you.

Another organization that you should all look into becoming a member of is the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA). SOMA has a direct link to the AOA, with voting members sitting on most of the major AOA committees. Each SOMA chapter is involved in philanthropy with their respective communities and responsible for educating thier communities about osteopathy.

Here at KCOM, the SOMA chapter is one of the largest clubs and we are traditionally quite involved with the community. In addition we have taken over 30 of our members to D.O. Day on the Hill, an AOA event designed to lobby Congress on health care issues, and SOMA's National Convention. In addition, we do programing against domestic violence, AIDs education, and this year we will be participating in an Adult Heart Health Campaign for NE Missouri. Another benefit of joining SOMA is our health insurance program, which provides our membership with lower cost health insurance that most schools require for matriculation.
