it seems from what I've been reading on SDN that if I take CK on or before July 27 (a saturday), my score will be on time to submit along with my application on 9/15. Does anybody disagree with that?

My real question is this: what's the absolute last date I can take CK and still have my app go out on 9/15?

IS there even such a date that we can confidently use as a cutoff?

I did pretty s.hitty on step 1, so I am sure you can understand why I need my app to go out as soon as they open, and I want a step 2 CK on there too so that they won't think I'm ******ed. More importantly, I need every extra day of studying that I can possibly get my hands on. I don't care if I have to fly out to alaska on that day because they have the only prometric in the country that has an open spot for me.

ANY help, advice, comments, or thoughts would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

thanks in advance

They can always delay your score if they choose/need to do any extra checks. More common for IMGs overseas, but it can happen anywhere.

True. I also could get run over by a bus. Fortunately, I am not an IMG, and I am not overseas.

But I was still hoping I could find that day that a few people could agree would be a good day to take my test by.

thanks again for your time

As per the announcement, they recommend you take the exam by July 27th. It's uncommon for results to come out early, so if you need that result by 15th September, July 27th (Saturday) would be the last date to take it. Results for the weeks after that will come only starting September 25th.

Crap. Really? I scheduled mine for three days after that date, and now I don't know if I can change it. This is giving me an ulcer.

thanks so much for the info dude - I am glad I made this thread then.

tell me about it man

For examinees whose circumstances require that they receive Step 2 CK scores before September 25, it is recommended that they take Step 2 CK no later than July 27, 2013.

I wonder what date we will have to take it by to have scores back by Sept 15?

Er, you'll either have your score by August 14th (counting 3 Wednesdays from July 27th) or on/after September 25th. There is no in between.

Hmm interesting, where did you see that the release dates are Aug 14 or on/after Sept 25?
[All I could find was where it says it may take longer than 4 weeks starting late July, and to get the score back by Sept 25th then you should take the exam by July 27th]

This is what it says according to me.

The target date for reporting Step 2 CK scores for most examinees testing in late July and August is Wednesday, September 25, 2013

So in essence, if you take your exam late July, you will get your results on September 25 at the earliest.

Now here is where I'm inferring, and may be wrong.

Since the usual score reporting is 3 Wednesdays, I assume that taking the exam on July 27th (the last 'safe' day) will give you your score 3 Wednesdays later, i.e. August 14th.

Assumptions I have made are:
1. 'Late July' means post July 27th
2. Score reporting before this date will not be delayed.

I sure as hell hope not, the general consensus already seems to be that the real thing is quite different from all the practice material.

There was a quite a tantrum thrown about this last year if I remember correctly when this happened for Step 1. Everyone feared that the new drugs and conditions were being thrown in as new questions. I'm guessing a common fear might be that DSM V stuff will be introduced.

However, I highly doubt all of the above given the NBME is usually a bit behind new things by quite a bit.

I'm just worried about my score because I'm taking the test after July 27th. Transition period = score uncertainty in my mind, however unfounded it might actually be.

my exam was scheduled for the 31st, i searched EVERYWHERE for a date before or on the 27th and ended up finding one opening in another state 6 hours away!!!! but i took it, i don't have any option!

Lol, this is just awesome... I am scheduled July 28th Wtf...😡

**edit- Was scheduled for the 28th. Got lucky and found a slot on the 26th at the same location so I won't have to deal with all this BS and any chances of test changes, delayed results, etc. GL all

No joke, on my peds nbme shelf exams it remarked in the question stem about a 19 yo girl getting a pap smear as part of her recommended preventive medicine.

That means nobody has edited that question in many years.

Gotcha. So we are assuming "late July" means post July 27th.

And if taken prior to July 27th, we likely are not affected & sounds like we will not have to wait until 9/25....

I haven't heard this... that the real thing is quite different from practice material?

Most posts I have read have said it is very similar to doing UW blocks...

Please elaborate, thanks!

Well I've a read a few posts on other forums saying that a lot of what was asked was not along the lines of the prep material. Then there was the n=1 experience of a colleague of mine, he said the test was unexpected and quite a bit tougher than expected. He came out with a solid 250+ score, but the subjective experience can affect one's performance.

Gotcha. Yes that is true. Thanks for replying!

So, is the consensus:

1. There may or may not be dramatic changes to the question pool that could have an important impact on your score
2. Those who need a bump from Step 1 need to take Step 2 by July 27
3. If you did fine on Step 1, having your scores in on or after September 25th is not a problem

Is that about right? Wondering if it's worth it to lose four days of study... I'm currently scheduled for the 31st.

1. It's unlikely any severely dramatic change will take place which will bring down everyone's score.
2. Those who need their score before September 15th for this year's match are the ones that really need to take Step 2 by July 27th. (which possibly does follow from what you're saying in 2 and 3)
