I'm taking the MCAT on June 20th, but want to get my applicaiton out to medical schools ASAP.

When do I need to submit my application on AMCAS by? I'm still finishing up my personal statement, so if I can spend a few more days working on it that would be great.

I will get my MCAT score back by July 21.

Ideally, ASAP. BUT, your MCAT date is extremely close, so you will not be screwed if you spend 100% of your time on your MCAT for now, and then polish up the PS in a few days post-MCAT, and submit by almost end June, or even early July (assuming everything else in your primary application is complete and ready to go). Just know that it will take a couple weeks (-ish...) to get verified.

But don't I need to submit my PS along with the rest of my app when submitting my application on AMCAS?

(I just realized cation spelled in application.. I think I'm going crazy)

Yes, that's exactly why I said to submit your AMCAS AFTER the MCAT, because submitting it BEFORE you take it implies that you are spending time right before your MCAT working on your PS, when you should be studying for the MCAT.

Unless that isn't an issue for you.

I really want to get my application to medical schools ASAP. I'm just confused on the dates on when to submit and how long it usually takes to get everything finalized (I think its called verified or submitted) for sending out to medical schools.

Your main priority is the MCAT right now. You can submit your app without scores, but I'd personally wait until after you take it to finish your PS. This is precisely the problem with taking the MCAT in the summer...

Listen to me carefully: waiting until a few days after June 20 to submit your AMCAS will NOT be a disadvantage. If it IS, it is minuscule at best. Don't be stupid: focus on your MCAT. No school gives a damn about submitting June 16 vs July 1 or so, if your MCAT sucks. If working an hour a day on your PS now does not hinder your study, then do it. You're the only one that knows. But you can submit your AMCAS all the way through September or later, IIRC. Thus, waiting a few days post-June 20 is nothing.

Yes, but I also don't want to have my applicaiton sent out too late.

I will also be taking the test June 20th and have delayed submitting my app (mostly because they still haven't gotten my transcript so they won't verify it yet anyways). I decided to let go of it until we take our exam and then I will spend another day refining my PS and submit it next Monday. I am sure we will be fine! We just need to focus on our exam right now.
Doing well on MCAT > worrying about submitting app a few days later

I will throw in a t.v. show quote, even though I am not sure how well it applies to our situation: "When you're on the Titanic you load the life boats, you don't stop to yell at the ship!"
