Greetings, everyone

This is my first time here and I wanted to see what other people think about this email I got from FIU Medical School.

Okay so I wrote them saying this:

"Hello, Can I take all of my Prereq's at a Junior College?
And Can you tell me If anyone has ever got accepted to the Medical School that has the Prereq's from a Junior College?"

And this is what they said:

"Yes and yes. However, you should still plan on taking upper division biology classes at a 4 year college or university while completing your bachelor's degree in the major of your choice. Those upper division courses can be genetics, cell biology, physiology, biochemistry, etc."

My question is should I do the prereq's at a CC or should I do some of them at a CC then some at a University even though they said I could do them at CC?

Thanks for reading 🙂

Whichever option that will save you time and money.
For example, if a uni gave you scholarships, just go straight to uni.
Just try not to take CC prereq classes after taking uni classes.

A uni also provides many more opportunities and resources than a CC.
Your personality and ECs are MUCH more important than where you took your classes.

Thanks, Speaking about EC's when is the best time to start doing that? And what kind of EC's should I do?

as many as so that they don't interfere with your gpa.........GPA > EC

This may be the case for FIU's Medical school specifically, but it may not be and most likely isn't the case for other medical schools that you might apply to when it comes down to it. Try to take as many pre-reqs at a 4 year uni as possible. As for EC's, start looking your freshman year or even now. Things like volunteering opportunities, research programs require applications which take about a semester to start and get accepted into a program. If you look now, you will save yourself a semester or 2 of "waiting time" during your freshman year.

Yeah that's true. That's why I asked the same question to all the Medical schools In Florida I'm waiting on 4 other schools to see what they say.

Also where would I be able to find research programs, In the hospital?

That depends on which university you go to, I guess. I'm assuming you're a florida resident and that you might transfer to a major state university. Big universities should have programs that will provide undergraduate research. At least at my school, these programs are advertised by flyers on the wall or through emails. If you want to do research, these are a great place to start. Also, although I'm not too sure on how this works, you can ask your professors if you can do research for them. Since many professors are teaching as a side job and doing research as their main job, you can ask them if you can assist them in whatever research they're doing.
