I will be graduating this spring, taking mcat this April, and applying for DO school this summer/fall. My question is, I am taking both second semester organic chem and second semester gen. chem this spring. my school only offers these classes at the same time, so i'm going to take gen. chem at a local junior college, does this look bad, to go to a junior college for this class?

I took many classes at junior colleges and have been accepted to numerous schools so... it doesn't look bad even though lots of people who went to tougher schools will say it will look bad.

I took gen chem 2 and o chem 1 at the same time and I nearly killed myself. Think verrrrrrrrry carefully before you take them concurrently. They are sufficiently unrelated that the information will not really overlap and you will have your hands full trying to memorize all the o chem reactions while trying to figure out polyprotic titrations in gen chem.

ITA with the above poster. Gen Chem II is difficult (not impossible, but hard all the same). More than anything it is time consuming. I took it at a junior college too and I thought it would be easy after taking upper level classes at a university, but I was sadly mistaken. I know you are probably eager to take the MCAT and get on with it already (med school I mean) 🙂 I know I felt the same way....but it will be a very tough semester (while trying to study for the MCAT). Whatever you decide, good luck to you I'm sure it will all work out.

I took a bunch of classes (physics 1 and 2, organic 1 for the second time, and A&P) at junior colleges and I have been accepted to four schools so far. I wouldn't take your bio requirements at a junior college if you can avoid it, but other than that it shouldn't be a big deal.

Call the admissions office at the schools to which you want to apply. They will give you their school's stance. After taking most of my lower div's at a cc. I had to transfer to finish some at a 4 year school because some med schools would rather see the core courses come from a university.

I did my first 1.5 years at CC to save money, and I got into every school I applied to. About half of my pre requisites were done at the CC.

thanks for all the responses. i know it will be tough, but i have the time and commitment. i'm currently taking physics II, o chem I, bio I, and my last business class and i'm doing fine.
