Just a theoretical question… In an interview if they ask you if you have any questions, would it be bad to ask what your chances are for you personally being accepted?

Personally, that is not my style and I wouldn't ask such a question. That aside, I would say it all depends on your comfort level with the interviewer(s), the rapport that you have established with them during the short time talking with them, and how open they seem to such questions. At the end of every interview I have been at there has been time reserved for the candidates questions. I think it is wise to make use of this time to clear up any question or issues you may have, demonstrate an active interest in the program, and probe the interviewer(s) for a more personalized feel for the program - all of which should help you in terms of the school's impression of you as well as aiding your own decision process should you receive an acceptance letter from them. Remember they are interviewing you just as much as you are interviewing them (no matter how active or passive).

I'm I was an adcom intervewer, and the person I was interviewing asked me that, I would personally feel uncomfortable and on-the-spot. I wouldn't do it... better safe than sorry.

Most likely they will not tell you the answer, because that will violate the agreement of Dec 1. Schools cannot inform you through any form about your status. Of course you are talking about what they think of your chance here, but that question can be interpreted as "am I accepted?". So the adcom would not tell you a straight answer. If they are nice enough, they will tell you that you have to wait for Dec 1. I agree that you should not ask this question, because you put the interviewers on spot, which is not a good idea.

sounds a little bit too forward for me, i wouldn't try it. december 1 is only a month away anyways. plus, they will most likely not give you a straightforward answer anyway (especially if for some reason they don't think you have a good chance, can you imagine trying to tell someone that).

Don't put the interviewer on the spot, he ultimately ends up fighting for you in the commitee meeting.

But I don't think there is anything wrong with ending that this is the school for you. If you express to them that this is the school. Tells the interviewer that your really interested in the school.

Most people remeber the first and last thing you say.

so if you express to them at the end of the interview that you would like to attend there school, that can only end in a positive light.

HD 👍
